Why do we need TO PRUNE SOFT?

Soft pruning is about respecting the sap flow of the vine and minimising any possible pruning damage. By doing this we can promote vine longevity and grape production for decades.
- Reduce both die-back and trunk disease, eliminating the need for costly replanting.
- Build the correct soft pruning structure into the vine and Increase sap flow, making pruning decisions quick and easy.
- Minimise pruning wounds and protect the cambium layer of the vine so that the vines produce premium fruit for decades.

My own journey learning Soft Pruning hasn't been quick.. But yours can be!
I first heard about Soft Pruning in 2016 when I was working a vintage in France. Since then I have been on a mission to learn and master the skill of soft pruning and put these techniques into practise each Winter in our vineyards.
You may have noticed.. For the longest time there was no soft pruning information available English and finding someone to talk to about soft pruning was a big task.. Having a teacher to ask questions and mentor you was in Australia almost impossible or expensive .
But I was fortunate..
By the way, my name is Owen.
I'm a vineyard manager in the Yarra Valley in Australia, and for the past six years, I have been on a mission to learn and master the skill of soft pruning.
I have had the opportunity to plant new vineyards and begin their establishment, manage premium old vines, and rejuvenate vines that had suffered from significant pruning wounds, all by using soft pruning techniques.
This has been a fantastic opportunity, but I didn't just develop these techniques myself; they have been around for over 100 years or potentially more!
The exciting thing is these techniques and pruning principles are being brought back to popularity by the Poussard Pruning system and the work of Francoir Dal, Simonit & Sirch, Marceau Boundaries, and the Australian viticulturist Dylan Grigg, who has mentored me during my time learning this skill.
